The last week is described as the “bloodiest seven days” since the foreign-backed Syrian war began more than three years ago. The so called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria “ISIS” is accused of killing at an estimated 250 government soldiers and civilians after they launched a massive assault on the Shaer field (gas field near Homs City) on the evening of 16 July 2014.
ISIS started the battle with a suicide bombing, followed by assaults on Syrian Army checkpoints in the region. ISIS has captured 8 checkpoints and taken control of the gas field after almost 12 hours of continual combat, according to an activists and journalists’ reports. This battle in the desert region of Palmyra has been among the bloodiest battles between Syrian Army and NDF on one side, and the ISIS terrorist militias one the other side since the beginning of the Syrian war. ISIL terrorists execute 50 captive Syrian troops in Raqqa
At least 200 ISIS fighters were killed in this massive assault on the Shaer gas field, according to local journalists. And although the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights can’t be considered a highly trusted resource for getting information – after many wrong reports about Syria were exposed – , but activists in the Observatory said only 21 Islamic State fighters were killed before raising the number it to 40, while the fate of more than 100 gas field workers and guards is still unknown. About 30 had apparently managed to escape to the nearby Hajjar field.
The Syrian government did not officially confirm the deaths, but many Facebook and Twitter profiles posted photographs of the martyr soldiers and workers, and marked their killings as a “massacre”.
It’s important to mention that the 250 killed Syrian soldiers / gas field workers were apparently executed after being captured by ISIS (not during the battle), as it was reported that some of the Syrian military officers switched sides at the start of the battle.

ISIS posted many videos online to prove their presence in the Shaer gas field, claiming they are going to blow the wells. The following video shows ISIS cars driven in the desert (Shaer gas field).

The next gruesome video shows the bodies of Syrian soldiers killed by ISIS (some of them beheaded) after being captured. In the video, ISIS terrorists are damning the dead in their statements.

Soon after, the Syrian Army launched an operation – included air strikes – to regain control of the Shaer gas field. The General Command of the Syrian Army and the Armed Forces said the army, aided by popular defense groups, has succeeded in establishing full control over the al-Shaer Mount and pushed ISIS out of the gas field.
During the same week, a car bomb exploded in the terrorist-held Damascus suburb of Douma (held by the so called “Jaysh_al-Islam,” led by well-known terrorist Zahran Alloush), killing at least 9 people and wounding others. The same area has been hit by by several car bombs in the past month. Alloush claims that ISIS is behind the bombs.
More killings happened – in the same week – in other parts of Syria including Raqqa, Hasaka, and Aleppo.
Local sources inside Aleppo city said that a missile shot down a Syrian Army helicopter loaded with barrel bombs in Bab Al Nairab. The helicopter crash killed at least 4 people, including a child.
Last Saturday, July 26, a car bomb exploded in a vegetable market in the northern Syrian town of Azaz, near the Turkish border, killing and wounding a number of people, according to The Aleppo Media Center (moderated by so called “Free Syrian Army”). Another car exploded in the northern village of Atmeh near the Turkish border, killing and wounding many, according to local TV channels and reporters.
In al-Raqqa city, the foreign-backed terrorists – including ISIS – who control large areas of territory in northern Syria and neighboring Iraq, have been engaged in fierce fighting against Syrian Army recently. Reporters and local activities reported that ISIS executed more than 50 Syrian army soldiers after capturing them during heavy clashes at the military base. More than 35 ISIS combatants were also killed during this attack.
The chief UN investigator says that ISIS public executions and crucifixions in Syria and Iraq may be added to the growing list of war crimes in Syria. The confidential list was revealed to the UN Security Council and reporters for the first time on Friday, July 25th, 2014.

Other heavy clashes were taking place between the Syrian Army and ISIS when ISIS started attacks on Deir al-Zor airport. The airport is one of the Syrian Army’s most strategically important locations, and ISIS attacked after it already seized many areas across the border with Iraq in order to link up territorial gains across Syria and Iraq. The Syrian Army bombed areas around the airport, forcing the militias to move back. Although 1700 is only an estimate and the actual number be somewhat higher or lower: dozens seem to be dying every day and hardly anyone is talking about.
The victim of the continuing foreign-backed Syrian war reaches over 170,000. Millions of Syrians have also been displaced due to the violence. Meanwhile, the United States pushes to send anti-Assad forces $500,000,000.
