In a shocking development coming from Beijing, China has refused the World Health Organisation’s involvement in its investigation into the break out of the deadly virus in the city of Wuhan.
It has been over 4 months since China has been under the radar for being secretive in handling the outbreak that has caused massive economic and medical damages across the globe. Many countries including the United States of America believe that it was intentional of China to hold on to information that could have possibly prepared the world for the pandemic. United States President Donald Trump also displayed intentions of seeking reparations for the damage caused. There are also concerns about people being crushed for dissenting against the government.
Now, it has been learned that the Chinese authorities are carrying out investigation regarding the outbreak. Shockingly, the World Health Organisation that has defended China against all the remarks have not been invited to join the investigation. The representative of the organization, Dr. Gauden Galea spoke to Sky News said,
“We know that some national investigation is happening but at this stage, we have not been invited to join. The World Health Organisation is making requests of the Health Commission and of the authorities. The origins of the virus are very important, the animal-human interface is extremely important and needs to be studied. The priority is we need to know as much as possible to prevent the reoccurrence.”
On the other hand, the United States intelligence officials have said that China failed to express the seriousness of the outbreak when it first broke out in December. The White House official said,
“Understanding the origins of the virus is important to help the world respond to this pandemic but also to inform rapid-response efforts to future infectious disease outbreaks.”
Dr. Galea also said that it is highly unlikely that there were only 41 cases in the index city of Wuhan from January 2 to January 16 which was what published by the authorities. He further added that,
“Is that a matter of difficulty in finding were they getting their act together, is it a question of definition? I cannot speculate. But it would have been during that period obviously some growth would have been happening. But yes, were there more cases? That is something that China will have to answer for.”
