Carl Sabatino was aware of his aunt’s possession, an artwork from his childhood days which he would call as “the woman in the fuzzy hat”. But he never imagined as to what seemed a normal art would bring him good fortune.
Painting Value
Carl would never have thought of the reason behind the care for a painting by his aunt. He realized the real fact when his aunt passed away passing on that painting to him as her last gift. In her last days, she hinted at the value of painting and asking Carl to not forget to look under the sewing machine. Carl had no idea till then that his aunt’s gift would be worth $30 million.
Important Signature
Carl finally found an old painting kept safely under the sewing machine as his aunt mentioned. It was nicely wrapped in a newspaper which was dated back to 1950.
It surprised him that she would keep it with her until he noticed something that caught his attention. That piece of work had some signature in the upper left corner with the name “Picasso”.
Pablo’s Masterpiece
The painting was purchased by Verastro’s husband from a street market in London during the time of World War II. He brought it at a nominal price of $10 only.
With the hint, his aunt provided, Carl believed that the painting would have been done by the master Pablo Picasso. Pablo Picasso made a similar painting in 1901 and Carl’s opinion is that his aunt’s painting is a recreation of the same. An expert did not accept his claim calling it Fake but Carl did argue upon its truth.
Amazing Discovery
Carl went on to further discover something about Picasso and the work he carried out. He was able to find out, that the piece which his aunt had was an improvement carried out by Pablo in 1936 using a particular printing technique.
Truth Revealed
Sabatino took a second opinion from another expert who was able to extract some pigment from the painting which matched the materials used in Europe in the 1930s. An another discovery was the partial thumbprint found in the paint that could have been left by the painter himself.
