Farmers in Eastern India use Coca Cola as pesticides!

For farmers in Chhattisgarh, an eastern state of India, there is a certain product that works as good as the expensive pesticides to kill pests. The product they discovered is- Coca-Cola or Pepsi. The agricultural scientists support this claim by telling that beverages have higher sugar content that make them extremely effective in fighting pests. The farmers in districts of Ranjandgaon, Durg, and Dhamtari in Chhattisgarh state that they effectively used such drinks to save their rice plantations from the pests. Sanket Thakur is an agricultural scientist who states that “it is happening in the plants as they get carbohydrates and sugar’s direct supply that boosts their immunity”.

A lot many farmers in the country are following this growing trend of using several Indian brand names of cola. This practice of using such soft drinks instead of using the pesticides is helping them cut their spending on pesticides- that is 10 times expensive than them. It is also increasing popularity of such drinks in many remote villages in India. Both Pepsi and Coca-Cola contain a pH of less than 3 as well as a positive ORP of around +250mV. It makes such beverages very strong acids that are toxic to insects as well as animals.
