Insomnia is on a rise these days.
It can be attributed to genetics and even the increasing stress in today’s fast paced world. Our hectic lifestyle and pressure to meet the never ending deadlines leave us with little or no time to sleep. Almost nobody follows the routine of sleeping for atleast 7-8 hours per day. We have in fact become tolerant to sleeping for lesser time. This has many hazardous effects on health and longevity. You should make efforts to get rid off insomnia as early as possible.
A pioneer at Harvard, Dr. Andrew Weil who is also a wellness practitioner, suggests an effective way that will make you fall asleep within 60 seconds.
The innovative 4-7-8 breathing technique was introduced by the doctor.
Sleep deprivation is caused by the increased stress.
Though people lie down on their bed with their eyes closed, still they are not able to relax their mind
Meditation and breathing have been studied by Dr. Andrew.
He claims stress can be counteracted by using breathing. He explains the 4-7-8 method of breathing as, “You breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold it for 7 seconds, and exhale your mouth for 8 seconds.”
Mind gets relaxed by this method.
This is because one’s heart rate slows down and chemicals are released in the brain.
During stress, adrenaline is released by the endocrine system.
This is done through the adrenal glands. The heart rate pumps up, making one feel jittery which may lead to any illness.
Slow and shallow breathing might even result from this.
A friend who applied this technique said, “I was skeptical, but I tried it. It ended up working like a total charm. I was out before I reached my 4th repetition and it tends to knock me out in less than a minute.”
Mind soothes because the natural effects of adrenaline are counteracted.
Hence, the heart rate is forcibly slowed down by the body.
This method works because it is based on meditation.
While trying out initially you may feel discomfort, but, your mind becomes clearer gradually and you become accustomed to it.
Those who implemented this exercise have praised it as being very effective.
Especially, for those who find it hard to fall asleep. A person who used this method said, “As you continue with it, you really do feel your heart rate slow and your mind clear. It’s almost like you are spending a leisurely afternoon at a beach. So relaxing. Give it a try tonight and tell us what you think.”
Peace of mind gets stolen due to lack of sleep.
Insomnia can even lead to various disorders. This method is quite handy for those who struggle every night to fall asleep. So, try it out and do share if it worked!
