In a rather bizarre incident a man who suffered a serious spinal injury in a freak accident has tested positive for COVID-19. The incident was reported from Kannur, Kerala, India where a native of neighbouring Kasaragod was brought for treatment at the medical college after a jackfruit fell on his head.
The 43-year-old man was plucking a jackfruit when it fell on his head and also injured his spine leaving his hands and legs immobile. As he was critically ill he was rushed to the Kannur Medical College where doctors decided to conduct an emergency surgery on him.
Though he had no COVID-19 symptoms since he was brought from Kasargod, which had the highest number of Coronavirus cases in Kerala the doctors decided to test his samples.
And to everyone’s surprise the test result which came on Saturday turned out to be positive. Following this the doctors who conducted the surgery, medical staff at two hospitals in Kasargod where he was initially taken and the relatives who took him to the hospital have been asked to self-isolate.
Authorities are also trying to identify everyone who might have come into contact with him in recent days. But what has left the doctors perplexed is the source of the infection. The man who tested positive for COVID-19 has no travel history or had not come into contact with any known patient.
