Many women have often taken to social media in the past to narrate their harrowing experiences with perpetrators who make them feel unsafe — be it in a local train or in a cab. But if you think the common (and nonsensical) rhetoric that asks women to stay inside their houses is probably a solution, then let us break the news to you — she is probably not safe even inside her house. A screenshot of a guy’s vitriolic rape threat to a girl and her brother posted as a comment on her photo is doing the rounds of the Internet. Many on Facebook and Twitter are sharing the screenshot of this threat, which reflects the dangerous mindset he has.
Karishma Khemlani, the Twitter user who shared the screenshot on the micro-blogging site, said the guy who goes by the name of Agniswar Chakraborty, have never communicated with the girl in the past. When he, one random day, decided to post a smiley on one of her pictures earlier, she deleted it because he was a complete stranger, Karishma told indianexpress.com. “This was his next comment on another post of hers,” she said.
This is the screenshot.
A friend of the girl brought the screenshot to the notice of Pranaadhika Sinha Devburman, who runs a page called Shontu – United against Online Harassment. Talking to indianexpress.com, Pranaadhika said they are going to file an FIR today (October 10). The girl, who is in her early 20s, is currently studying and working in Australia. She had posted a picture of her Skyping with her little brother who is 14 years old, under which the guy, identified as a Kolkata resident, commented with a smiley. Because she did not know the person and nor was he in her friend list, she deleted the comment, after which he posted this outrageous threat on another one of her pictures, said Pranaadhika.
After Karishma, who works with Pranaadhika, shared the screenshot, many, including comedians Sorabh Pant and VJ José Covaco reacted strongly to it. This is Karishma’s tweet; in the comment thread, she even said that the guy has been found out to be the girl’s neighbour.

Pranaadhika further said that they got in touch with a few of his friends and co-workers, many of whom confirmed that this is how he usually speaks. Karishma said it is especially horrible that the guy threatened a 14-year-old boy with rape, which is an offense under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
