The doctor who operated his appendix himself

Around half a century ago, this gentleman named Leonid Rogozov did something truly amazing- he operated his own appendix- where there was no other doctor available during emergency!

The then 27 old surgeons was the only one in the Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1961 when he suddenly experienced nerve wrecking pain in the stomach area. Not only that, he suffered from high fever as well.
To know the reason behind it, Dr. Rogozov did a self check up to discover that he had an inflamed appendix that could rupture any time soon

With the help of a local anesthesia, he operated himself to take out the appendix.
In the first of its kind surgery, an engineer as well as a meteorologist assisted Rogozov in the surgery.
