This small antelope was spared by 3 cheetahs and even played with him!
Photographer Michel took these incredible pictures while on a safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara in October 2012.
He says on being getting astounded by the scene that he saw “these siblings are living together ever leaving their mother when they were around 18 months old. One morning, they didn’t look hungry and started walking fast only to stop for playing at regular intervals. On the way, they saw a crowd of impala who sprinted away. A youngster among them was not fast enough and got caught off by the three brother cheetahs.”
The strangest scenes followed after that:
The 3 cheetahs walked away rather than hurting him.
It seriously seems that this antelope had quite an exciting day evading death- literally- by walking away unharmed from the scene.
Cheetahs usually hunt during daytime and need some rest after running fast to catch their victim. It could rather be antelope’s luck that the cheetahs were already full while it got an encounter with cheetahs.
Denis says “Cheetahs knocked it down and then suddenly lost interest. They rather remained with it for more than 15 minutes- either putting their paws on its head or licking it.”
For once, it looked like one of the three cheetahs changed his mind and might attack on young antelope’s neck but rather ran away, not giving his playmates a chance to chase.”
