For any of you who don’t know, time travellers are people who can move between particular periods of time and space. Fables say they are helped by time machines or portals.
What is time? While most people consider the time to be continuous, the physicist Albert Einstein said that time is an illusion. Furthermore, it’s relative and it can differ for separate observers depending on your speed through space.
Einstein’s theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up analogous to how fast you move relative to something else.
Time travellers and their concept of time travel have been a generally accepted idea in fantasy and philosophy as well. Namely, this theory came to life when H.G Wells wrote his 1895’s novel – The Time Machine.
However, no one has even proven if the time travellers are real and if time travel is really achievable.
Going forward to the time, according to special relativity and general relativity, might be possible, but not with the prevailing technology we have in the moment.
As for retrograde time travel, it has potential to succeed with general relativity, but it lacks proper conditions to make it physically possible.
General relativity also provides plots that could allow time travellers to go back in time, according to NASA. The equations, however, might be challenging to conquer.
Traveling to an uncertain point in space and time has a very poor support in theoretical physics. Usually, time travellers and related to quantum mechanics or wormholes, also known as Einstein-Rosen bridges.
Wormholes
One opportunity could be to go faster than light speed, which travels at 186,282 miles per second in a vacuum.
Another possibility would be to move a ship very fast around a black hole or to create an unnatural condition with an enormous rotating structure.
“Around and around they’d go, experiencing just half the time of everyone far away from the black hole. The ship and its crew would be traveling through time,” said Stephen Hawking for the Daily Mail in 2010.
There have been many people who declared themselves as alleged time travellers, reported by the press or on the Internet.
These reports have generally turned out to be fake or based on incorrect presumptions or only urban legends.
The reality, however, is more confusing. Not all scientists believe that time travel is possible. Some even say that an attempt would be mortal to any human who tries to engage in something like this.
So, time travel does not appear reasonable, at least not possible in a way that humankind would survive it.
However, with the physics that we use today, the field is continually altering. Progress in quantum theories may contribute some understanding of how to defeat the mysteries of time travel sometimes in the future.
