Much has been written about the benefits of a Mediterranean diet, a diet full of fresh vegetables and herbs, oily fish and good fats like olive oil. It is said that the Mediterranean diet is the healthiest in the world.
Proof of this is Emma Morano who was the oldest person in the world up until her death in April this year. She was the last person alive to have been born in the 1800’a and her healthy diet has been attributed to her long life.
Emma had one food love – eggs. She said she ate eggs every single day and estimates suggest that over the course of her life she ate around 10,000 eggs.
She said after suffering from a bout of anemia in her 20’s, her doctor prescribed her 3 eggs a day, something which she lived by for the rest of her life.
Many people are wary of eggs from the leftover 1980’s propaganda which suggested that high levels of cholesterol in eggs is bad for heart health. This has now been proven false, and it turns out that eggs are one of the best foods you can eat.
They do contain cholesterol, but the kind that we all need. For such a tiny food it packs in a huge amount of vitamins and minerals, all the essential things it needs to incubate a baby chicken to full term.
Eggs contain –
- Vitamin A
- Folate
- Vitamin B5
- Vitamin B12
- Vitamin B2
- Phosphorus
- Selenium
Plus:
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin E
- Vitamin K
- Vitamin B6
