Sex is what makes the world go round. It’s how we ensure the survival of our species, it’s great exercise, and, more to the point, it’s fun. Now that we live in an age where women and men are encouraged to live out their kinkiest desires, we’re having more of it than ever before.

But as we all know, it’s a lot easier for men to climax than women.

In the past, men might have gotten away with failing to take their lady to Pleasure Town, but if you don’t make a concerted effort to help her reach the Big O these days, well, the chances of you getting a repeat invite to her pants drop significantly.

After all, no woman wants a one minute man.

Don’t get me wrong, excuses can be made for men who’re relatively inexperienced in the sack, but once you’ve got a few notches on your bedpost, you’ve got a real problem if you can’t hold your load for longer than five minutes.

Female masturbation is no longer the taboo it once was, and the vast majority of women are more than willing to give their men a helping hand when it comes to letting them know what gets them off, so modern men aren’t going short of advice or feedback.

And now women have revealed exactly how long they want men to last in bed!

Online dating website Saucy Dates recently conducted a survey of 3,836 people – yes, men were asked how long they wanted to spend romping too – and the results were surprising.

Women reported an average ideal desired sex time of 25 minutes and 51 seconds, and men, well, their ideal wasn’t too dissimilar. They reported an ideal desired sex time of 25 minutes and 43 seconds.

But don’t worry, very few couples are lasting this long globally. The peak average time is 17 minutes and 5 seconds, and this honorable position is held by men in the United States.

As a whole, we’re lasting pretty long in bed, so if you aren’t measuring up and your average time is, God forbid, less than five minutes, you now know that you’ve got some serious competition from the men around you.

So, now onto the good stuff, how can you make sex longer? Well, you’ve got quite a few options at your disposal.

To begin with, there’s foreplay! Not only does it increase the chances of you making your lady climax, but it adds a lot more time on to the act itself. If both partners pleasure each other without penetration, that easily adds a good ten minutes of sexy time.

But fear not once you’re actually inside your lady, you can make yourself last longer by varying up your positions, and, if you’re completely desperate, by thinking about your Aunt Helga (the one with the wooden leg).

However, if you’re still despairing about your performance and you’re under the age of 28, there’s some good news.

Sex, like many things in life, simply gets better with age. Once the novelty of having sex wears off, men will statistically last longer in bed. So there could be a reason why some women go for older men beyond them simply wanting a sugar daddy!

If American Pie is anything to go by, older women are better in bed too.

The statistics of country performance with age are impressive. Globally, men in their 50s are lasting a lot longer than 18-year-olds. But if you’re wanting to have the best sex of your life, the peak age for doing so if between the ages of 28 and 33.

Perhaps it’s needless to say, but these statistics regard sex as what happens between foreplay and ejaculation.

In a 2008 study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, sex therapists revealed how long penetrative sex should last. If you’re romping for less than two minutes, it’s “too short”, between three seven minutes is “adequate”, but seven to 13 minutes was seen to be “desirable”.

So the next time you’re about to get down and dirty, it might not be a bad idea to set a timer on your phone to see how you really measure up.

But at the end of the day, if you’re a man and want to know if you’ve pleased your lady, the best thing to do is ask. Although, if you’ve done a really good job, regardless of whether it lasted ten minutes or 30, there shouldn’t be any need to.
