Watching this video from Alan Watts will definitely help you to no longer fear death!

Death has always been feared mainly because of the unknown. When we are children, we all have this belief system that we will live forever, but who told us that we will live forever? We share a beautiful experience, all of us, and that’s the time we’re given to live our lives.

”We live in a culture where it has been rubbed into us in every conceivable way that to die is a terrible thing. And that is a tremendous disease from which our culture in particular suffers.” – Alan Watts

After originally watching the video for myself I stepped outside and I felt compelled to laugh at the small things. Alan Watt’s talks can require an open mind, as most of his beliefs are contrasted to most of the Western world – so if you are really ready to open you mind check out this video and share it with your family and friends!

Watching This Video From Alan Watts Will Help You To No Longer Fear Death

Watts “Acceptance of Death” short lecture raises five key issues to persuade your beliefs about death.

1. Overcrowding

The first concept Watts talks about is overcrowding. While one might jump to thinking of images like Mexico City, in this concept Watts is probably more referring to the bigger picture. Could you imagine living in a world where we had people living since 1600? I can and it scares the hell out of me. We might have grown up in a far more different world than today, probably a more frenzied world. I absolutely agree with Watts that death is in a way honorable.

2. Glory Of Death

For his next topic Watts contends that if death was postponed, then we would actually seek to achieve it. This may sound ridiculous, because who would ever want to die right?

But by examining our culture’s behavior related to death, which is usually a sad and memory filled affair. One would be able to determine that death is really a monument of what it means to be living.

3. Passing The Torch

Then by examining the practice of having children Watts asks “Why else would we have children?” The simple answer is to have a family, but much deeper it is simply to replace ourselves. So as Watts says, “passing of the torch,” it is quite literally a changing of the guard.

4. Innocence

If you have any younger family members, I advise that you spend time with them. What you will see is the magic of innocence. Because life only becomes visible through the multiple trials of life.

Things like clouds, lines in the dirt, and many simple things (to us) are still magical to children. And while we may not see their imaginary friend or the cloud animals in the sky it is because, as Watts argues, the magic disappears for us.

5. Survival And Profit

Something that we 90s kids have began to see is that money seems to be a a revolving concept and for some they can’t have enough money, while others are living paycheck to paycheck. And as we begin to grow up we start to see the complex structures that make up the world around us. So as Watts concludes if we were to continue living we would lose the very aspect that nature intended for us. And it is at this point that there is no point to life anymore. As Watt’s says, “And so, we die.”
