Even to this day science is uncovering the mysteries of our giant Planet Earth. Just recently, archaeologists discovered something very interesting and they’re calling it The Gates of Hell…

In Saudi Arabia, archaeologists have uncovered something they’re referring to as the gates of hell. It is thousands of years old terrain and has been uninhabitable just as long. Researchers were searching for remnants of ancient civilizations when they discovered stone ‘gates’ in and around ancient lava domes. The area in which they found them is described as a ‘hellish’ landscape deserted of vegetation, water, and life.

The structures are anywhere from 40 feet to almost 1,700 feet in length. They’re built of rough rocks that have withstood thousands of years of wear and tear. It stunningly appears as if the lava fields the structures were built upon were still active at this time, with hardened lava appearing to have flowed over the gates.

“Gates are found almost exclusively in bleak, inhospitable lava fields with scant water or vegetation, places seemingly amongst the most unwelcoming to our species,” wrote David Kennedy of the Western University of Australia, who led the research. Kennedy noted that the structures “appear to be the oldest man-made structures in the landscape” and that at the moment, “no obvious explanation of their purpose can be discerned.”

The discovery was ultimately revealed when scientists and researchers used satellite imagery to identify nearly 400 of the gates in the same area. There are clearly man-made structures alongside odd walls, what appear to be animal traps, and a wheel-shaped object yet to be identified. Researchers believe this area to be at least 9,000 years old since it was constructed.

You can’t deny that these are very interesting findings. Who do you think built these structures, and how did they get around the burning hot lava? Science has yet to determine how they are going to investigate the buildings further, but it certainly must be done. Do you think they’re the real gates to hell?
